DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING AND BUSINESS AT HOTEL

In any company, Marketing and Sales are always devise business strategies, find ways to attract customers and ensure the sale of products to the company.
 
In a hotel, the Marketing and Sales department usually has 3 branches: Sales, Marketing, and Reservations. Normally, most of the staffs in the Department are parts of the Sales team because each sales staff only undertakes a certain market segment such as Corporate Sales, Banquet, Government, TA, OTA, etc.
Sales Corporate: Business units
Sales Banquet: conferences, seminars, events, parties ...
Sales Government: Government, administrative agencies
Sales TA: Travel agents
Sales OTA: sell services through online booking websites such as booking.com, Agoda, ...
 
Each employee will be trained and experienced in a certain market. It is impossible to force a TA Sales to sell a conference room or to organize an event, as well as a sales government employee to sell OTA.

 

The marketing team is simpler. The marketing team usually has a designer, a person in charge of content, ideas and a leader who creates a marketing plan for the whole team.
 
After sales doing their jobs, the booking will be transferred to the reservation department. This is the place to update booking information daily: New booking, changed booking, canceled booking, ...
 
The number of employees in the Sales & Marketing department will depend on the size of the hotel, so will the number of employees in each team. For an international 5-star hotel with 500 rooms, the number may fall to about 30 people.
