DISCOVER HANOI OLD QUARTER

Hanoi Old Quarter is a common name for a long-standing urban area of Hanoi located outside the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. Hanoi Old Quarter is located in Hoan Kiem district with a total area of about 100 hectares. Tourists often describe this neighborhood with the phrase "36 streets of Hanoi", but in fact, the old town consists of 76 different streets in 10 wards including Hang Dao, Hang Bac, Hang Buom and Hang Bo, Hang Bong, Hang Gai, Hang Ma, Dong Xuan, Cua Dong, and Ly Thai To.

Initially, this was a residential area with a concentration of small shops, trading activities formed during the Ly - Tran period. People from all over gather to trade here, they divide by street and focus on selling the main items of their craft villages.

The names of the streets are named after the main commercial product there, plus the word "Hang" in front. For example, Hang Bong street, which had many craftsmen, sells quilts and blankets; Hang Ga street is a gathering place for shops selling poultry: chickens, ducks, swans, geese, pigeons. Nowadays, most of the streets have changed to trading products, no longer produce items by the name they used to be.

This is also a neighborhood that still retains the old house architecture with the structure of a tube house, tiled roofs and a facade of shops specializing in trading. The old town is always, not only shoppers but also tourists coming here.
